Why Students want SMART

Why do you want to participate in this program?                                                                                   ¿Por qué quieres participar en este programa?
I want to participate in this program because I’m interested in many UC schools and I feel this program may help with that. I also want to participate in the activities this program has to bring.
I don’t know much about how college works and I want someone to show me the way.
I want to be the best person I can be. I know I can get to a good college, all I need is help. I know I can do this. I want to be an example to my younger siblings. I want to make my parents proud. I want to be happy knowing I made it to a college I wanted. I can definitely achieve this. All I need is help to get it done. I know I can. I won´t give up.
I would like to participate in this program because I know it would be of great benefit for me and would help guide me to a final conclusion on what I really want to do in life and what schools after high school I would want to attend to help build up my career

I want to join because I would love to find the perfect college for me and see the options that are open to me when I do look more into this program. Also so I can get the support I need from the mentors.
I want to participate because I want to go to college and volunteer to help others.
College is something I have always been passionate about. I think about my education and future more than anything else. I am constantly working to become a well-rounded student that colleges would want at their facilities by committing to extra curricular activities and academic dedication. However, I am not confident that I am doing enough to get into a university or if I can even afford my dream schools. I believe that this program will guide me through my concerns in a clear and concise way that would help get me to the future I have always wanted.
I want to participate in this program to receive advice on how to improve myself as a college candidate overall, guidance to choose a major, and how to receive scholarships/financial aid. I feel as though I work hard to be well rounded student and want to ensure that all my effort pays off.
As my parents do not have much educational experience, they have always taught me to “do better” by working hard for my goals. From a young age, I have desired to graduate college with a degree, making my parents proud and pursuing a dream they could not. In order to reach my goal, I would love to be a part of this program to provide me with guidance and advice on how to work towards my objective and to get through the innumerable obstacles that face me. I am a driven and dedicated student, and would love to improve these skills. I hope to learn not only information about college candidacy, but to also join an inviting community that can support each other in reaching their goals.
I want to participate in this program because I feel like I have no one to help me get into college and I really want to go to college. Also I don’t know where to start to apply to college. I don’t know what I want to do but being a therapist really interest me. I really want to get into a good college and I think this program is going to help me.
As the oldest child in my family, I’ve always wanted to achieve their dream for me of being the first to graduate from college. However, as the first to graduate with a college degree, I face the problem of being unaware of how to accomplish this dream. I would love guidance in finding the right college and career for myself, as well as finding who I am as a person. Additionally the knowledge shared with me will be passed down so I can share it with my younger siblings. I work hard every day at becoming my ideal future self, but I do know my efforts alone wont be enough, and I need a mentor.
I need help and direction when it comes to colleges. I feel lost and unsure what to do. I feel as if I’m not getting all the answers I need when I do ask questions.
I found interest in this program after hearing of the potential connections I would make with my mentor. With my mom working full time, I don’t have many opportunities to talk to an adult about my future education. Participating in this program would allow me to create a real connection with an adult who takes a primary interest in my education and helps me achieve my academic dreams. As I reach the end of my high school career, thoughts of college fill me with enthusiasm as well as anxiety. If I was chosen for the SMART program and gained a mentor, they might be able to alleviate my fears about college and change my worried perspective on the entire application process. My dream universities are based in California and hearing that we are required to apply to UCs and CalStates for SMART, increased my interest in this program even more! I have the utmost faith that I would be a good fit in this program, and I really, really hope that you will consider me to be on the SMART team. Thank you!
I want to participate in this program because my dream job is to be a kindergarten teacher or have my own daycare so I’m really trying to go to a good college and this program will help me get into a great college with a mentor that will help and push me to reach my goal.
I am interested in going to college and I want someone to guide me in the right path.
I would like to join the SMART mentorship because now that I am a junior I want to prioritize my future education more than I have in more recent years. I want to ensure that I give myself a more competitive and well rounded experience in my college application process. And in order to do that I realize that I need mentorship in order to take this next step in my future. I want to dedicate my time and resources into my future and I think the SMART mentorship would suit my needs very well.During and after my time in the program I would love to take the knowledge I’ve gained from this program and apply it to benefit my peers and myself in the future.
I feel like one of my biggest obstecals in my journy after school is money. I don’t want to have to take on debt in school and need guidance to get me on that path and teach me.
My wish is to apply for a UC or Cal college as they are both near in location and affordable in pricing. The SMART Mentoring Program will help me accomplish this goal and more, which is why I wish to participate in this program.
I want to join this program to I can get advice on college and see what I can do.
I would really enjoy being apart of the SMART program because it’s an amazing opportunity for me to get the support I need to navigate the college application process. I don’t have anyone around or at home who can help me with this type of stuff. It can feel overwhelming sometimes knowing that this process is approaching soon , but I’m determined to make my dreams of going to college and having a successful career in the medical field a reality.
Being a part of SMART would give me the guidance, mentorship, and resources that I need to confidently apply to colleges. It’s not just about getting into college for me, it’s about setting myself up for success in life. I want to make a difference in the medical field and help others, and I know that a college education is the key to achieving that. With the comprehensive learning-support programs offered by SMART, I’ll be able to receive the guidance and assistance that I’ve been looking for. I’m ready to work hard, take advantage of every opportunity, and make the most of this program. I’m really grateful for this chance, and l’m determined to make the most of it.
I really want to participate in this program because I feel like it’s a great opportunity that could really help me with my future in college. It would be great to have someone mentor me that knows the ins and outs of college to help me when i apply. I only have one family member that has ever been to college and I have no guidance of how getting into college works. I wouldn’t want to pass up on something as helpful as this.

I would love to participate in the SMART program to become an individual who my younger sister can look up to as a stable, reliable adult, and role model. An individual who can live a life that is not consumed by fear of the unknown future, and an individual who can make the world just a bit better. I am the daughter of two Mexican immigrants who came to the United States with only a high school education, and I am the first generation to finish high school and go into a college/university. My family has known nothing but the cycle to achieve the American Dream: wake-up, work hard, repeat until “achieving success”. I recognize my young age and inexperience, but I know life has much more to offer than working until I would be too tired to play with my own children as they grow up. As the oldest sister, my greatest desire is to be my younger sister’s guide into a better future. With my participation in this program I would have more wisdom and experience on going into college, and I would be able to guide my sister in the same way I would be guided. My dream has been to pursue a degree in psychology, however as of recently the reality of my graduation has been striking my deep fear of what the future may await; I feel that under a mentorship in the SMART program I can overcome this swallowing fear and pursue my aspiration to help children in the United States starting with my 12 year old sister.
I would like to participate in this program because I feel like I need a guide to help me get into a good university and also to motive my family. My parents have done a lot and made a ton of sacrifices for me by coming to this country. Due to this, I want to not only repay them for what they have done to get me where I am today, but also move on forward for myself. I have grown up in a Mexican family and so far only my older sister has gone to a university. When she started her application process, I noticed how much she struggled to do her FASFA forms and filling out her applications. She had to get a ton of help from many people so she would either get lost or confused. With this mentor program, I hope to have a strong guide to help me find my way into getting accepted to a university. I want to be able to stay focused and organized during this stressful process, therefore I would love to be a part of this program. If I am accepted into this program, I hope to inspire, motivate, and eventually be a mentor to my family or anyone that wants to go to a university as well.
As graduation soon approaches, it has been a priority for me to lay the proper groundwork for my future career. My plan is to find and utilize as many resources as possible, no matter what it takes. Not only academically, but socially as well. I believe a highly important factor of life and building block for success is human interaction. Receiving the opportunity to be in an environment with other students that share similar values is essential to not only my growth, but their growth as well. Participating in these programs can ease any worry I have about life after high school and will truly be a push in the right direction. To reach my goal of a secure and sturdy foundation and future, I look forward to becoming a part of the SMART program.
I want to participate in this program because I want to go to college and this would be an amazing oppurtunity to help me get where I want to be. As I am struggling with what I want to do, and where I want to go. I think this program would really help me get onto the path I want.
I would like to participate in this program because I want someone to guide me on how to get to college. Since I am the first one in my family planning on going to college no one knows how to guide me to this goal and I would appreciate the help. Another reason I would like to participate is because I honestly don’t know how to get to the goal of going to college without the help of someone who has experienced the progress of going to college.
